Hill Street Studios

Hill Street Studios is a new recording facility based in Onehunga, Auckland, New Zealand.

Based in a gorgeous looking and sounding room built with cedar and mud-brick in a '70's cinderblock warehouse, Hill Street Studios is built for comfort.

The centerpiece of the combined studio/control room is a fully refurbished MCI JH636 analogue console. This board has some history as it came out of  Electric Avenue Studios in Sydney where it was witness and executioner to some of Australia's most iconic recordings in the 80's and 90's. After getting a warrant of fitness from Mixmasters in Adelaide, it was crated up and shipped accross the ditch.

Along with it came 24 channels of the finest A/D/A coverters in the form of the IZ RADAR V-Nyquist 96/24 recording system. We also have 8 more channels of RME converters - and with Steinberg Nuendo as our DAW and a cedar/mud-brick lined Isolation room, we are ready for any project that comes our way.

Along with the big stuff, we have a great collection of industry-standard and vintage rack gear and microphones. Our collection of instruments and amps is vast and varied (see the gear page). Our Yamaha YUS5 upright grand is the finest piano we could find to fit into our compact 600sq ft studio.

We are well set up for live ensemble recording as well as layered productions....think of this as a place where you can get comfy, put your feet up and make some great music.
